A tachometer is a device used to measure the rotation speed of a shaft or disk. The most common example of such a device is that of a rev counter in a car. As with rev counters tachometers usually deliver results in revolutions per minute.

A stroboscope is a device which is used to measure rotational speed. They deliver similar results to tachometers but via a different process.
